DSCN4533 (8)Tena Kotou Katoa, Talofa, MauriGreetings to our school families.

Welcome back to another action packed term! A huge thank you to the parents who attended my special assembly on Monday morning as I moved into the Principal role, and to the many who have popped in or sent messages. I have been reminded once again what a close and caring community we have here, and really appreciate being a part of it.

Our school family has continued to grow this week, with 6 New Entrants starting, as well as new students in other levels. We also have 6 Student Teachers from AUT starting with us today, who will be with us for a short stay now (until the end of next week), until they return for a longer visit in August. It is a neat opportunity for our amazing teachers to share some of their knowledge, and also for our students to become familiar with working with a range of adults. A big thank you to the teachers who have taken on this extra responsibility.

I would like to thank you for your patience in coping with the roadworks on Dawson Rd of late. We appreciate these can sometimes be difficult to negotiate, especially with the extra congestion around drop-off and pick-up times, but I am told they are progressing well, and shouldn’t take much longer. Please be aware that our patrols are also trying to work in with the “stop/go” sign, so your extra care is appreciated.

You may have heard in the media about the new Health and Safety Act, and various references to how this may affect schools. The BOT are working through these changes, with extra meetings, to make sure we are meeting every expectation. You may find more paperwork and signing required for class trips, and certainly for camps, but this is now a necessary part of the process. In doing this, we can still keep these activities that are such an integral part of our school going.

Nga mihi

You will be receiving nomination forms in the mail early next week, and the voting rolls will be available for inspection in the school office. Being on the BOT is an opportunity to be involved in the school at a Governance level, and make a difference. Feel free to drop in to the office if you have any questions, or email kramel@snellsbeach.school.nz

Scary Writing from Puriri 2!

Madmen

They came after me. My heart was pounding. I ran! I leaped! I climbed! It finally happened! Two of them, side by side. I was still. They got me. I was ‘In’!The bell rang. I escaped to my class.

Eat or be Eaten.

It looked at me viciously. I turned it over. I saw it had eye balls. It was going to eat me and I screamed.  I was going to die here with this sandwich. I picked it up and took a bite.

Please check expiry dates on medication

We have had a couple of incidents lately, where medication we keep on site for specific children has been found to be expired. This has been a particular problem with asthma inhalers. Please double check that you know in advance when these will need replacing.

Friday Fun Lunches

These will continue this term, with all proceeds prior to Camp Tongariro in June, going to support our Year 6 students. We are incredibly thankful to the group of Year 6 parents who have assisted with the ordering and delivery/serving process, which has made this possible. Following camp, we are hoping to continue these as a school fundraiser, co-ordinated by the PTA. If you are able to assist, please contact Colin Chapman in Totara 1  or email at cchapman@snellsbeach.school.nz. What could be more rewarding than spending a fun Friday lunch feeding hungry students and their teachers!  😀
