DSCN4530 (3)Tena Kotou Katoa, Talofa, MauriGreetings to our school families.

Hello to all the parents and caregivers

This will be my last entry in the newsletter as Acting Principal which I have to admit is sad for me. I have thoroughly enjoyed being in the position of leading the school and interacting with the community. My aim for this term was to ensure that the school was welcoming to you all, and to have an open door policy with all the stakeholders-parents, staff and students. I wish Snells Beach School to be a warm, inviting safe environment that nurtures all who walk through the doors (or down the stairs!), so that they can advance in their education with excitement and wonder. I also wished to ensure that everyone felt heard, valued and supported-again this includes the community as well. I feel this has been achieved. Thanks to many of you who have popped in for chats and have passed on their good wishes. I appreciate it very much. I look forward to working alongside Kathryn Ramel in her Principal role as Associate Principal, and wish her the very best. I am also looking forward to working alongside Rietta Young in Puriri 1-look out kids…here I comeJ.

I also wish to thank the large number of parents and relatives who attended our Goal Sharing afternoon last Friday. It was wonderful to hear and see the learning conversations going on. The children really appreciated you taking the time out of your busy days to come to support them. We are very sad to be farewelling some of our school families notably: Izaak, Olivia and Oscar Church. We will miss your cheery faces and quick minds and especially Kelly with all she has done for our PTA. Farewell to Liv & Mack Bennet-Thiffault who are returning to Canada. We will miss your other world view experiences that you have shared with us and Jade’s fantastic help in the Library. Lastly farewell to Paige and Lucas Bettridge-one of our first families. John and Leonie have done an enormous amount for the school since day 1 with John being on the PTA as chairperson.. There is a rich legacy left behind including our gorgeous Pohutakawa tree, the Corkin courtyard and numerous other items around the school. We wish you well in Tauranga with your new business venture.  Have a very safe and wonderful holiday everyone. Take good care of yourselves and come back on Monday 2 May refreshed and ready for the next term of learning opportunities.

Message from the Board of Trustees

On behalf of the BOT, I would like to reiterate the longer letter sent out earlier, and acknowledge the excellent job Cherylene Neels has done as Acting Principal throughout Term 1. The school has had a successful term, and all classes are off to a busy and focussed start. There is a positive atmosphere throughout the school and community – we are well placed for the year ahead. We know that the school will continue to benefit from Cherylene’s leadership, as she returns to her role of Associate Principal.
