Tena Kotou Katoa, Talofa, MauriGreetings to our school families.

Hopefully we can look forward to some drier times ahead – it did feel a little ironic this morning, as I watched a pair of ducks splashing in a puddle where our Cross Country should be being held today! Hopefully you will all now be aware that the Cross Country has been postponed until Monday. Please check our Facebook Page and your emails for updates if the weather continues to refuse to co-operate next week.

Classes are starting to gear into one of our big school-wide focuses each year – public speaking. This is something as a school we value, and have always supported and encouraged. From our Student Leaders running assemblies and major events, through to junior students developing the confidence to speak in front of others, speaking in front of a group is a challenge for us all. In the digital age, where on many occasions messages are now shared electronically via email, movies and presentation media, nothing can quite compare with the impact, depth and personality a confident speaker can provide. How many of history’s great moments have been defined by a great speech? Good luck to all our students as they prepare to “battle the butterflies” and step up.

Below, you will see some information regarding a fundraiser the PTA are organising – Disaster Plasters. We thank you in advance for your involvement with this, which has the potential to provide a major boost for our school. With current funding levels, the financial support provided by our wonderful PTA has become critical for enabling our school to run as it should. I would like to acknowledge Marissa Bale, in particular, for her hard work and leadership of this particular fundraiser.

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

The Great Disaster Plaster Fundraiser – A message from our PTA

The PTA have organised a wonderful fundraiser for our school that anyone who has ever needed a plaster can support. Here’s what happens:

The model is just like the old “boxes of chocolate” fundraiser….but healthier! Each family will be given a carry pack containing 15 individual boxes of Disaster Plasters. Each box of 50 plasters sells for $5.00. Disaster Plasters cost no more than supermarket brands and have proven easy to sell. If each student sells their 15 boxes, every class would raise upwards of $750 which would be an incredible step towards our goal.

We have a special guest speaker coming to Assembly next Friday to explain the process, give ideas of who you might sell boxes to, and also to share some of the great incentives, such as skateboards, which are on offer to motivate and make this a fun experience.

Disaster Plasters will be sent home next Friday 19 August.

Proud of our Kapa Haka Performers

Although it has been mentioned on our Facebook page, we haven’t acknowledged the amazing performance our school Kapa Haka group gave at the Opening Ceremony for the new Sandspit Marina. They were described by a member of the organising committee as “stars of the show”, and they certainly were! Currently the group are working on learning some new songs and haka to share later in the year. Thank you to Mrs Williamson for her leadership in this area, and Mrs Watkin, Mrs Gore and Miss Ramel for their support. A huge thank you to Michial Wood for painstakingly sewing our new badges onto our sashes – a huge job!

Thank you to our friends at the Mahurangi East Library!

We were recently gifted a huge pile of books from the Mahurangi East library. We are incredibly grateful for their donation, and excited to get the books barcoded, and on to our shelves as soon as possible. If you are able to help with this process, please let us know. Here are Dakota, Macy and Zara checking out some of the new titles:
