We’ve come home from camp this week, and straight into the hurricane of assessment, report writing and analysis that this time of year brings. Crazy times!

Currently,  are noticing a lot of “winter sniffs and snuffles”, including a few cases of Strep Throat. We really appreciate your support in coming to collect these students if they start to show symptoms during the day – thank you!

Please take the time to read carefully below about the slight change to Parent Interviews – our increasing roll is constantly making us review things, to ensure school life happens as smoothly as possible.

Finally, good luck to our Inter School Soccer Teams who compete next week!

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

Welcome to our new students – we hope you enjoy your time at our school!

Mid Year Reporting and Parent Interviews (new booking system)

Mid Year Reports will go home in hard copy, in bags, on Friday 2nd July. If you would like a digital copy sent to another parent/caregiver, who will not receive the paper copy, please email us on admin@snellsbeach.school.nz, so we can arrange this.

The following week, (the last week of term), is also “Parent Interviews” week. 10min interview slots will be available between 2:30pm and 8:00pm on Tuesday 6 July, and between 3:20pm and 5:00pm on Thurs 8 July. This year, we are trialling a new booking system, through our App.  More details will be available next week on how to do this. Paper booking sheets will still be distributed; however, App bookings will be available first, giving people who use this system preference.  This is a necessary change, as we cope with such a large increase in students on our roll.

To download our app, simply go to App Store (Apple) or Play Store (Android) and download the “Skool Loop” app. Once this is installed, use the drop down box to select “Snells Beach School”.

Year 6 Camp Tongariro – What a Week!

Our Year 6 students headed down to Tongariro last week for our annual senior camp. As usual, it was a packed itinerary. Parents at the pre-camp meetings often think we are joking when we say we don’t usually have time for the kids to shower but, once again, the soap went home un-used. 7:00am – 10:00pm non-stop each day, including the Rock n Ropes at Taupo, Taranaki Falls Walk, Whakapapa Visitors Centre, playing in the snow, caving and white water rafting! This year was probably the warmest camp we’ve had, (still single digits, but often we are well into the negatives). This meant that there was absolutely no snow in “Happy Valley” at Whakapapa Ski Field, but luckily the new “Sky Waka” was running, so we caught those up the top and found snow after all. The Sky Waka was a first for our camp – thank you to the Board of Trustees for supporting this change.

Huge thanks go to our intrepid parent helpers, Nathan Cavanagh, Chris Ferguson, Cherry McGuire and Leon Elton, who were absolutely amazing. Nikki Chapman, who worked so hard to support some high medical need students and, of course, our teacher crew, for managing their own families in order to give this camp 100% commitment once again.

Lastly, a HUGE thank you to everyone in our community who has supported our various fundraising efforts to provide our kids with this experience.

2021 Food Bank Appeal

We have bags available in the school office for the New World 2021 Food Bank Appeal.  A great opportunity to have a wee clean out of your pantry for “in date” food, that your family won’t use, but would be appreciated by someone else.  Classic example – don’t you love kids who announce the first box of muesli bars is delicious, but then won’t touch the next box?! Alternatively, pop a few extra long lasting, non-refrigerated items into your trolley in your next food shop. Grab a bag, and then either drop off to New World yourself, or drop back into the office, and we’ll deliver them for you.
