Tēnā Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej, Hallo, Sawat Dee, Cześć, Goeie Dag, សួស្តី, Здравствуйте, hola. Greetings to our school families.

This term finishes with a bang – reports, parent interviews, union meetings, Camp Assemblies, End of Term celebrations……..we’ll all need a holiday to recover!

Parent interviews are, in my opinion, one of the most important times of the year. Home school partnerships are crucial. It’s important to sit down and focus on kids as individuals in depth – not just the short snapshots of daily life that are usually shared.

Cross Country happens early in Term 3, and many year levels are out training at school already. Some of our more competitive runners like to know this is coming up so they can train over the school holidays. Our school event is Tuesday 17 August (week 4), with a saving day of Thursday  19 August.

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

Welcome to our new students – we hope you enjoy your time at our school!

Day 1, Term 3 Monday 26 July

Uniform Change – Socks!

At this week’s BOT meeting, the BOT elected to make a small change to our school uniform. Currently school socks should be plain white only, but from Monday, students can also wear plain black socks. Kids seem to habitually run around in just their socks no matter how much we nag, which makes keeping them white a bit of a losing battle. Please note, they shouldn’t have big logos or other labelling on them.

Uniforms should be worn well – our guidelines are pretty simple, and all uniform is available on site, in our school office. Please make sure your child has the correct school uniform:

  • Tops – school polo
  • Bottoms – (choose from) school skort, skirt, shorts or long pants
  • Polar Fleece – second hand options available from $10
  • Winter beanies – $13 (totally optional but very popular in the colder months)
  • SBS Rain jacket – fleece lined $39 – again, totally optional
  • Socks – plain white or black
  • Tights – plain white, black, navy or red
  • Undershirts – plain black or white (we don’t really think undershirts are necessary – our kids wear our fleeces at Tongariro, they are very warm!)
  • Shoes – any shoes that kids can do PE in ie: no gumboots, jandals or ballet flats.

School Reports

These will come home in school bags today (& be sent to emails as requested by some families). Inside your report envelope, you will also find confirmation of your interview time for next week.

Parent Interviews

259 Interviews were booked through our app, which we take as a huge success. Interviews take place inside your child’s classroom. The class “shared spaces” (apart from Rimu and Rātā who don’t have them), will be open so parents can wait out of the cold or rain. Please be prompt for your booked time – teachers are unable to extend interviews due to other bookings.

Paid Union Meeting – next Tuesday morning

Next Tuesday, 6 July, the majority of our teachers will join teachers from across Northern Rodney, to attend a union meeting throughout the morning.

We will make arrangements here at school for students to be appropriately supervised, but their usual learning programme will not take place.

Before School: students go to their usual classes, where they will be supervised by the following teachers (more teachers will be on-site in school hours):

  • Mrs Davies – Rimu Block, and Rātā students who will need to go to Rimu Block that morning
  • Mrs Holland – Kauri Block
  • Ms Wallis – Kahikatea Block
  • Ms McDonald – Manawa Block
  • Mrs Lovegrove – Puriri Block
  • Mrs Sands – Nikau Block
  • Mr Port – Totara Block

All teachers will return for the afternoon programme.

Afternoon Pickup:

All students will move to the hall for a singing assembly from 2:30pm, to allow teachers to begin Parent Interviews. If you would like to beat the 3:00pm rush, or have an early interview, and would like to pick your child up before 3:00pm, please come directly to the hall.

At 3:00pm, all students will be dismissed from the hall as they would be in class, with the exception of our Year 0/1 students, who will be held in the hall for parents to collect.

Buses will run as per usual. School patrols will be out at the usual times.

Kelly Club will run at the usual times.
