It’s time to dust off my trusty “camp gear” this weekend, ready to head down to Tongariro with our Year 6’s next week. It’s a huge moment for them. They spend so many years watching the kids head off to camp, and waiting for their turn. Something special happens to kids on camp, and they are quite simply “different” when they return – in a good way. Although parents dealing with really tired kids next Friday night may not necessarily agree initially :-). They learn to be independent, to self manage and organise, and to face challenges and celebrate success. It’s one of my favourite times of the year, and we look forward to sharing updates with you as we go – check out our Facebook page next week.

Enjoy your long weekend, have some great family time, and travel safely, those who are going away.

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

Welcome to our new students – we hope you enjoy your time at our school!

Results of our PE & Health Survey

See the attached pdf to see the results from our recent PE & Health Survey. It has taken a little while to share these, as they needed to be presented to the BOT first. Please note – a few responders had mentioned students’ names – we have blocked these out.

Teacher Only Days 2021

Under the Primary Teachers Collective, we have two Teacher Only Days to schedule this year. The BOT have approved these as:

Mon 9 August (Week 3, Term 3): Focus: Staff Development and PLD on the new NZ Histories Curriculum

Mon 15 November (Week 5, Term 4): Assessment and Reporting

SBS will be closed for instruction on these dates. Kelly Club will be offering supervision for those who require it – information to follow. We will send out plenty of reminders closer to the time, but wanted to be sure to give parents plenty of warning.

Inter School Netball Tournament

Four teams of Year 5 & 6 students represented SBS at the inter-school netball competition held at Wellsford last Wednesday. Our kids were amazing! They displayed outstanding determination, resilience, sportsmanship and skill – despite many having never played before. After some nail-biting action, SBS came through to finish first-equal with Matakana. A massive thank you to our coaches on the day- Zoe, Kylie and Loran.
Also many thanks to Shannon Corsan, who went along with the teams today – taking the great pics, giving great support. (More pics on our SBS Facebook page).
Stars Out Of School – Hunter S
We like to share and celebrate our kids achievements out of school – it’s part of being the SBS family. Hunter S entered the 6km Rangitoto/Motutapu Dual Race recently, and came 3rd overall in the Open Mens division! Hunter is 9! There were 77 runners of all ages, competing in a gruelling course, up and down Rangitoto, in muddy and uneven terrain. He maintained 6min kilometers for the race, finishing in 36mm, 22sec. A huge effort – well done Hunter.
