DSCN4533 (7)Welcome to Term 2! There is so much to look forward to this term, particularly for our Year 6’s, who head off to the annual school camp at Tongariro. Three big Zone Days are coming up, starting with Rippa Rugby, Netball and Soccer. Our performing arts opportunities continue to develop with Glee Club and Kapa Haka moving into full swing. Students in years 4 – 6 will be involved in Planting Days, as part of our school philosophy of caring for the environment, and this year’s focus “Care for Here”. ICAS testing begins for the year with Writing and Spelling later this term, providing students with the opportunity to compete in academic challenges. And the PTA are busily planning an event for parents and other adults towards the end of term which promises to be an absolute cracker!

We will be sending home mid-year reports in Week 9 (end June), updating you on your child’s progress to date, and then following  this with parent interviews in week 10, where we will be happy to discuss these in detail, and provide ideas of how you can support your child at home. Remember, if you have any queries or concerns regarding your child’s learning, you can contact your child’s teacher at any time – email address’s are on the school website.

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

New Enrolments

We have had a constant influx of new enrolments on a weekly basis so far this year, with 11 new students starting this week alone. Please, if you know of people intending to send their child to our school, please encourage them to come in & pre-enrol at the school as soon as possible, so we can plan for their arrival.

Huge thanks to our PTA for their generous $10,000 donation!

Our PTA work hard to plan and run fun events to support our school, and we are incredibly thankful for all that they do. The role of a PTA has changed over the years, from a group that helps to provide “extras”, to a vital source of funding for the school. This funding is then used primarily to support the teaching and learning that happens in our classes, and update resources as they are needed. This year, we are focussing on expanding our supply of reading resources. PTA money allowed us to double our budget for this, so combined with the Walkathon proceeds, our book selection is looking MUCH healthier. Joining the PTA is a great way to meet other parents, have a giggle, enjoy some wine and chocolate AND benefit the school. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:30pm in the staffroom.

A new addition to our Management Team

Erena classAs Mr Trent Morley moved into the Associate Principal role, a vacancy was created on our school management team. We are delighted to announce that this has been filled by Mrs Erena Williamson. Her role will be building relationships with whanau and establishing programmes to lift student achievement. Erena has experience working at a management level through her role on the Board of Trustees, and has a sound professional knowledge of both the junior and senior areas of the school. Along with Kerry Thomas, we have an excellent team with diverse skills to lead us into the future.

Welcome to Mrs Nicki Holland

NickiNicki Holland begins as teacher in Kahikatea 1 next week, following a week of co-teaching with Laura Morley to make the transition as smooth as possible. Nicki is an extremely experienced teacher, who has had two of her children attend our school. She likes to create a safe classroom that is creative, colourful and hands on, and believes in close ties between home and school. We are lucky to have her on board, building on the excellent start the children have already had working with Laura Morley.

New lino and building work

The school was extremely busy over the holidays, with new lino being placed in the hall, following some damage done during a delivery last year. Naylor Love have also been onsite completing some remedial work from the initial build, and various pieces of maintenance. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the extra trade vehicles, particularly in the car park area.

vestsWe have a limited supply of brand new, school uniform vests on sale for $15 each. These are made from the same fleece as the sweatshirts, and are a good option for this changeable weather, or even as another layer in winter. Available through the School Uniform Shop.
