DSCN4530 (2) Tena Kotou Katoa, Talofa, Mauri, greetings to our school families.

Many thanks to the families who braved the nicely timed torrential downpour and attended the Meet the Teacher afternoon on Tuesday. It is always great to have the time to ask  questions and receive answers, and this was a perfect opportunity for you to do so. Leading on from this I would like to extend an invitation for any parents who would be interested to train as parent readers for our students who need some extra reading mileage. This would take up approximately half an hour of your time from 9-9:30. If this sounds like something you would be interested in please leave your name at the office or pop your head in my office  and let me know. As our school motto is “Learning for Life”, helping in this way shows our children that learning continues even as adults.

Many of you may have noticed the pipes sitting alongside the school. There will be some major disruptions with traffic when the contractors start digging so please be aware of this. We will send out a more detailed information sheet when the work actually starts. The road will be reduced to one lane, and there will be either traffic lights or STOP/GO controllers on site. This will require patience and tolerance on the part of parents dropping children off- a wonderful opportunity to display those Values to your children ( muttering under your breath is allowable though). This would also be a perfect opportunity to try coming to school in a Travelwise way. We hold Gold level, which is a fantastic achievement. We actively encourage our children to walk, bike, skateboard or scooter to school , wearing appropriate safety helmets of course, and your support with this is appreciated. It would be wonderful if we could start up our Walking School Buses again so if you are interested in doing this please contact Mrs Kerry Gore at school. She would LOVE to hear from you.

Thank you for taking the time to read the newsletter and have a lovely weekend. Cherylene Neels, Acting Principal

Fish Wanted Please!

Our Puriri 1 students, along with Mrs Young, are looking at fish this term, and would love some that they can dissect to look at the gills, swim bladders etc. If any of our keen fishers are able to supply us with any we would really appreciate it! We have plenty of storage in the freezer, and are not fussed on the type – ones that you are not so keen on eating will be gratefully accepted by us. Please contact Mrs Young ryoung@snellsbeach.school.nz or Miss Ramel kramel@snellsbeach.school.nz if you are able to help.
