As we look ahead, you will note that only 2 weeks remain in Term 3. While it seems time has flown, looking back, we have also achieved so much, in such a variety of areas. It has been wonderful to see so many parents in the school supporting the various events – thank you.

A reminder that as we move into summer, that school hats will be required from day 1, Term 4 – please order new hats through the uniform shop, or school office. A huge thank you to Mon Genet for offering to run our Uniform Shop – we really appreciate it!

Mrs Neels has been working hard with our lead actors for the School Production next term, and their progress has been amazing. Events like productions are important reminders that schools are not just about the “3 R’s”, but instead need to provide opportunities for children to experience and shine in a variety of contexts.

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

Introducing our BOT – Shane McGuire

Shane McGuireOur family has lived in this community off & on over a period of 11 years, but we’ve been part of the Snells Beach School community since early 2012.  My wife, Cherry, & I have 4 children and 2 of our sons attend Snells Beach School in Year 5 and Year 1.  We love the life-style here with the beaches, beauty & friendly community, just to name a few highlights.

I was born in Wisconsin, USA & grew up in Colorado, but have been a Kiwi, at heart, for a long time now & consider NZ home, even though I may not sound like a New Zealander 😉  I currently work as a bee-keeper, however, my past job experience includes working in the outdoor adventure & building industry.

It’s a pleasure to be on the Snells Beach School Board for a second term and being able to work with Kathryn Ramel as our Principal.  There are many qualities about our school that I appreciate such as hard-working, dedicated teachers, a great group of students & some important life-long values being instilled in a consistent manner.

Junior Poetry Recital

We were extremely proud of our Year 0 – 3 students who conquered their nerves, and presented at the Junior School Poetry Recital last week. The standard was impressive, even more so when you consider the short period of time that most of these students have actually been at school, and the large group they had to speak in front of. Well done to all our place getters:

Year 3: 1st Elyjah Howson     2nd Anthony France     3rd Seila Feleti

Year 2:  1st Royston Bale     2nd Marie King      3rd Amie Haines

Year 1:  1st Elsa Stanley      2nd Makeen Konate     3rd  Dove Elton

Year 0:  1st Xander Love     2nd Jeslin Thomas     3rd Autumn Howson

Disaster Plaster Fundraiser – a huge success!

We can’t thank you enough for the way in which you have supported the PTA’s “Disaster Plaster” fundraiser. While the exact total is still being finalized, we are looking at a profit of just under $3000! This will have a huge impact on our school! Children who sold a box will receive a small gift in class today. The major prize for top-seller will be presented at our next Full School Assembly – week 9. The school would like to acknowledge the huge contribution Marissa Bale has made organizing this, assisted by Kim Love and Catherine Gleeson – great job ladies.

School Photos – with Little Doves Photography

Little Doves 2Little Doves Photography will be at Snells Beach School on September 21st and 22nd for ‘Natural Light School Photos’. The children will be photographed outdoors in the school grounds, creating more casual and relaxed portraits than the standard school photos.

All children will be asked to be in their class and/or team photos (on the 21st). If you would like individual photos of your child (on the 22nd), please fill in the booking sheet your child will be bringing home

and return it to classroom teachers. Photos will be available for viewing and purchasing in a password protected online album, 2 weeks after the photo shoots. (alternative arrangements can be made for families without internet access) As a very special fundraiser, Snells Beach School will receive 12% of the total profit of this campaign.

Your child received a booking form today – please check their bags for it!

Mellow Yellow Pinkalicious for the Cancer Society

Sadly, we have all been affected by cancer in some way, and the Cancer Society is a charity which our school has a long standing history of supporting. We are proud to announce that this week we raised $290 to donate. Well done to the School Council for running the events on the day! A special thank you to Rosie from Nikau 1 who drew us a brilliant Daffodil Day logo for our coin trail.

IMG_3621Inter School Hockey

It was a busy day this week for our Senior Students at the Inter School Hockey tournament, held at the Warkworth Turf. Many thanks to the parents and supporters who braved the blustery conditions. All players represented our school with pride, but special mention to Jenna Brangwynne and Pearl Kleyn for an outstanding effort on the day, and thank you to Mr Chapman for his organisation.
