Tena Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej, Hallo. Greetings to our school families.

mugshotYesterday I returned from Year 5 Camp (having done a tag with Miss Thomas), reflecting on how important Camps are to this school, and just how much we see our students grow as a result of being on them. Our year 5 cohort has been our biggest growth area of the school, and is almost 50% bigger than this time last year! Camp has been a great time to forge new friendships, build trust, learn to rely on each other….and most importantly have fun. These are all solid foundations on which to build a year full of learning ahead.

We have continued to welcome many new families to our school. Please – if you don’t receive this newsletter via email (and wish to), contact kramel@snellsbeach.school.nz or check out our school Facebook page, which operates as a digital newsletter with reminders and updates.

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

Paid Union Meeting (PUM) – Friday 16 March

The Primary Teachers Union (NZEI) are hosting a Paid Union Meeting for teachers on Friday 16 March. Many teachers from this school will attend this meeting during the afternoon. If you are able to, we request that you pick your children up from the school at 12:20pm, or alternatively give them written permission to walk/cycle home at that time. The school will remain open, for the afternoon and any students remaining at school will be supervised appropriately until 3:00pm, when buses etc will run as per usual. We thank you for your support.

Meet & Greet…….take 2!

Let’s hope the weather supports us this time! We cordially invite all Snells Beach families and whanau to attend a meet and greet evening next Wednesday 28 February from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Snells Beach. There will be juicies for all SBS kids available from their teachers, with further juices (for siblings), and sausages on sale. Come and meet some of your children’s new friends, and get to know all our staff. If you have not handed in your “Parent & Caregiver Homework” please bring it along, or see your child’s teacher for a spare sheet to fill in on the night.

High tide is at 7pm, but please be aware that the school will NOT be supervising swimming.

Year 5 Camp Mangawhai

Our Year 5 Campers have had a busy and fun filled time taking part in Water Fights, Surfing, Kayaking, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Flying Foxing, Confidence Courses and a Marae trip. Whew! Thanks to Mr Chapman for his organisation, and Miss Thomas, Mr Morley, and Miss Ramel for their support. A huge thank you to Michelle Saleupolu, and Shane Stanley for coming along as “Camp Mum  & Dad”, and being such good sports, and all the parents who helped with transport. Camps are not just about fun – we see huge personal growth and self management develop in students at camp, and it is also a time to form new friendships and team spirit. Kia kaha!

Guitar Lessons After School

Dianne Morgan is once again providing guitar lessons here, after school during 2018. This year the lessons will occur on a Thursday afternoon and will commence on Thursday 15th Feb. Lessons will be held in the school library, just down the main stairwell, on the left.

Pricing and times are detailed below. You do not immediately have to purchase your own guitar, as there are 6 available to use at school, however these instruments must remain in the school, for school use.

A clearfile is a great idea for organizing the sheets handed out each week.

  • Thursday 3:45pm Beginners 8 – 12 yrs. 45min lesson costing $7.50 a lesson plus $5 once a term for photocopying.
