mugshotI love this time of the year! So many celebrations already underway, so many being planned. The choir have just headed off on the bus to practice for the Carols in the Park event next week. Our Year 5 Campers are super excited and ready to head off to Mangawhai next week. Preparation is underway for our athletes to attend the elite Hibiscus Coast event. Planning has begun for Prizegivings, picnics and Christmas Concerts – exciting times! Please have a good look at the weekly diary below – we warmly welcome parents to attend as many events as they can (appreciating at the same time, that this is a busy time of the year).

Nga mihi,

The Snells Garage Sale Trail and Gala

We were humbled by the community support shown in pretty dismal weather at our school gala last weekend. A huge thank you to the many of you who got stuck in and helped out on the day – we really do appreciate your time and effort. Our PTA put in a huge amount of organisation, and we were delighted to have so many people attend our last meeting. Many people contributed, but in particular we would like to thank Tanja Dove, Marissa Bale, Ainsley Cole, Michelle Jackson  and Jemma White for their overall organisation. In spite of the weather (and some activities having to be cancelled), the gala was one of our most successful ever. After expenses, over $6000 was raised for our school – an amazing effort!

Monitors and Responsibilities Awards

You will see on the school calendar that we have our Monitors & Responsibilities Awards coming up soon. At these awards we recognise students who have lived their values all year by doing jobs to support others at our school. Certificates are presented, so it is a good photo opportunity for attending parents. Initially we had planned these to occur in the afternoon, but as we are a little unsure how long these will take, we have moved them to 9:15am Monday 4 December – see you there!

Super Athletes

Our students who attended the recent Inter School Athletics at the Warkworth Showgrounds, not only represented our school with pride, but also achieved some outstanding results! Huge congratulations to Annika Bayer, Juliet Crause and Conor Gallagher who all smashed long standing Inter School records in the sprint finals! We would also like to wish the following students who qualified for the Hibiscus Coast Event next week the very best of luck:

  • Zoe Turner
  • Jahlia Epiha
  • Annika Bayer
  • Ethan Genet
  • James Elder
  • Balian Adams
  • Melody Bedggood
  • Elizabeth Tereroa
  • Lewis Savage
  • Kauri Morrison

Walking (& Wheeling) School Buses

Riding bus 1Riding bus 2

The Walking School Bus philosophy fits perfectly with what’s at the heart of our school: caring for each other, supporting each other, looking after our environment and having fun! The Algies All Stars Wheeling School Bus had a beautiful morning to ride and scooter to school this morning, supervised by Sharon Addis. We would love more parents to run our walking school buses next year; don’t be shy, it is easy, and you get fit too :-). Please email kthomas@snellsbeach.school.nz, or drop into Totara 2 for more information.

School Prizegiving and Awards Ceremony

We have also made some changes to our major school Prizegiving, which we hope will make it more manageable in terms of length and timing. This is both a hot time of the year for our younger students to sit still for long spells, and a crazy busy time of the year for parents. To help the ceremony run more smoothly, we will now be starting at 12:00pm on Wednesday 13 December. The format will be:

  • Official welcomes etc
  • Kapa Haka Performance
  • Class Values Awards
  • Year Level Maths Awards
  • Year Level Literacy Awards
  • Junior Leadership Awards

Afternoon tea break (Years 0 – 2 don’t return) (1:00pm ish)

  • Pasifika Group Performance
  • Middle School Leadership Awards
  • Senior School major Awards
  • Choir performance
  • Year 6 Graduation

Classes 2018

Due to our roll growth we will not be publishing class lists for 2018 at the end of this year. It is likely that some of the current draft lists may have to change over the holidays if we have a significant amount of enrolments in one area of the school. As with this year, we will post class lists in the office mid January, and inform you that this has been done via email and our school Facebook page. Unfortunately, for privacy reasons, we cannot publish whole class lists online. We apologise for the delay in finding out classes, but strongly feel it would be more upsetting if classes were to change at the last minute.
