mugshotThe past few weeks have been a hugely busy time of managing growth, dealing with change and making plans. As a result some big decisions have had to be made. And as we have worked through the process of making those decisions, we have repeatedly come back to the same point – what is best for the children?

We have experienced unprecedented roll growth across our entire junior school this year. It would seem people have discovered our beautiful area, and are coming to join us. It is fantastic to welcome new families into our school and community. As a result of this growth, we are having to do a major restructure of our junior classes, to keep sizes at an acceptable level. I would like to acknowledge the huge effort our Year 1 – 3 teachers have made, making the best possible decision for each individual child. It was really heartening to see the care and consideration shown for both academic, and social needs. Our new class, Manawa 2, will start shortly, on Monday 11 September. They will enjoy being taught by Ms Heather Manning four days a week, and Mr Morley the fifth.

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

Hibiscus Coast Cross Country Runners

After the local Inter School event was cancelled, a team to represent our whole area was chosen to attend the Hibiscus Coast Cross Country, largely based on last year’s results. We were very proud to have Zoe Turner, Dakota Corringham, Charlee Fraider, Ethan Genet, Tommo McGuire and Cayden Steffener selected.

We received excellent feedback on the way our students both competed and conducted themselves, and were especially proud to hear that Tommo McGuire achieved a second place in the Year 6 Boys – well done Tommo!

Boots and Brollies Day

Thanks everyone for the phenomenal support of our BOOTS & BROLLIES DAY! Hopefully you’ve had a chance to check out some of the photos on our school Facebook page – making memories for families.

Congratulations to the students of KAURI 2 who had the highest percentage of walkers and will be rewarded with a PIZZA LUNCH next week! Mrs Mackay and Miss Thomas will organise a day for this to happen and let the students know. Well done, Kauri 2!

Thank you to the students of Totara 2 who spent their maths lesson working out and comparing the percentages of walkers from each class, to ensure the result was fair. Thanks also to Miss Thomas for organising this fun event!

Senior School Planting Day

Our Year 5 & 6 students returned to Scandrett Regional Park this week for their annual planting day. What a gift the Scandrett family gave the people of this area, and wider Auckland! It truly is a special place. It was amazing to see the height that trees from our first planting days have grown to – some of us feel a little old looking at them! It will be a special thing for our students to come back to in the future, and see the difference they made.
