Tena Kotou Katoa, Talofa, MauriGreetings to our school families.

It was great to catch up with so many parents and family members at our mini-gala this week, and enjoy the event that our senior students had done such a good job of organising. Occasions like this are such a reminder of both the
collective strength that community offers, and the potential for leadership within this that our students hold. We are very proud of their efforts!

Thank you for your continued patience with the roadworks on Dawson Rd. I have now been told that there may be some further digging and groundwork required, but this is unconfirmed at this stage.

Keep safe, and savour the last warm days of Autumn. Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel
Principal

Board of Trustees Elections

Thank you to those who have been nominated to be a parent representative on the BOT. The process from here is that there will only be an election if more than 5 parent nominations, and more than 1 staff rep nomination are received. This will be confirmed by Eric Pedersen, our returning officer on Monday. If there is to be an election, voting papers, statements of support, and an addressed BUT NOT STAMPED envelope will be posted to all eligible voters on the main and supplementary roll.  Voting forms must be returned to Eric in a stamped envelope by the 3 June.We will publish a full list of nominees, along with their statements next week.

A very successful Mini-Gala!

Mini Gala 4Mini Gala 3

Mini Gala 1

Huge congratulations to our senior Year 5 and 6 students and their teachers, Kerry Gore, Erena Williamson and Colin Chapman, for organizing the fantastically successful Mini Gala. This is an annual event, where our Year 5 and 6 students design and run their own stalls to fundraise to support the Year 6’s heading off to Camp Tongariro.  It is a great example of how we live our values by supporting one another, as well as developing entrepreneurial skills and business nous. We are absolutely delighted to announce that this year’s mini-gala raised $1650 which will be split evenly across the Year 6 campers.

Having a clean out?  Can you help?

To help with some of our specialized programmes we are collecting:

  • any Thomas the Tank Engine items you may have finished with at home. Toys, books, pictures, games……anything related to the little blue engine himself, the fat controller, or any of the other characters.
  • any Lego items – blocks, pictures, catalogues etc.
  • any Dr Seuss books
  • any superhero items, pictures etc
  • beanbags of any size
  • inside tent or teepee
  • rainmakersnow globes etc

We realize that all of the above are fairly highly sought-after items, but if you were preparing to “move some on”, they would be greatly appreciated and well used.

Manawa 1 and Puriri 2 Jane Gifford trip.

Jane Gifford 1Jane Gifford 2Jane Gifford 3

Last week some of our Year 3 and 4 students enjoyed a trip down the Mahurangi River on the historic Jane Gifford. Despite the threat of some Autumn showers, an enjoyable time was had by all. A huge thank you to the parent helpers who supported Ms McDonald and Mrs Bishop on the day. Check out some of the students’ writing below:

The Jane Gifford

Yesterday we went on a trip on the Jane Gifford. It is a boat. To get there we went on a bus to Warkworth. I had to sit next to Jess on the bus. When we got there we got out. It was hard to spot the Jane Gifford. I manged to spot it. I was excited but Anthony told me not to get excited. When we got on the Jane Gifford a man told us the safety thing. Then we got on and it wasn’t very fast. As we went on I saw a cement palace. Mrs Bishop dressed as a pirate. After a few hours we went back to school.

Manawa 1
The Jane Gifford Trip

Manawa 1 and Puriri 2 went on the Jane Gifford. First we went on the bus to Warkworth. We got off the bus and got on the boat. The man talked to us about the boat. Suddenly the boat turned around. We went down the river. Then we saw the cement works. The man talked to us about that too. We went down the lake a bit more. Then eventually we turned around and headed back. Soon after that we had lunch. After that we went back on the bus to school. I liked the trip because: we learned about the boat, we got a sweet and we didn’t have our parents. I really liked the trip on the Jane Gifford.

The Jane Gifford

On Wednesday Manawa 1 went on a trip on the Jane Gifford. We went on a bus. I sat next to Liana the whole way. Then we had to line up and wait for Mrs McDonald to and tell us it was ready. We all went into the boat. Liana and I played some silly games with each other. It was fun. We saw ducks and broken trees. Then we had to get off the boat. We had a walk in the rain and saw some names of the boats. Then we went back to school.

Rippa Rugby Inter School Sport

Rippa 2 Rippa 3    Well done to Mr Morley, and our super keen Year 4 – 6 Rippa Rugby players, who toughed out the first real “winters” day of 2016 at the inaugural inter-school Rippa Rugby Tournament. It was a successful start for us with most of our teams recording at least one win in the first few rounds, before the rain really came down. We would like to thank the brave parents who battled through the weather to support the teams, especially Angela Brangwynne, who put Bear Grylls to shame with the speed with which she erected a much needed shelter for all.
