DSCF4155The year has started well for Puriri 2 2014 with the students making interesting and intelligent decisions about what they want to do and how they want to do it. They have told me what they would like from the year;  I have told them what I would like and we have reached an accord.

We entered negotiations about their homework and we have written a contract that we will sign together. (See Homework page to read the outcome of these negotiations).

They have told me some of the things they would like to do this year and much to my dismay- cooking came up- but I have promised to try and fit it in somewhere along the way, as well as the other things they came up with.

I have explained to them that I do not want pencil cases in class except on special days and they will be given advanced warning of this. Pencil cases get bigger and bigger; things get lost in them; people mistakenly put other peoples pens/pencils etc. in them and this all takes up valuable learning time to sort out. We will keep all writing/ drawing equipment in pots on the tables so they are always immediately to hand when it’s time for work. No hunting for equipment wasting time; no,” they’ve got my stuff!”; no heaps of huge pencil cases filling the tables and hiding what is going on. I realise this might be hard for some but in the end we are here to learn not compare stationery.
