Tena Kotou Katoa, Talofa, Greetings to our school families
Welcome to Week 3 of Term 3 everyone and what a wet one it has been. Winter is still definitely here and with it the nasty flu virus and tummy bug that is still hitting our students and teachers hard. I cannot stress firmly enough how important it is to keep your children at home if they are sick. We are having quite a few students relapsing because they are returning to school too soon. Please also monitor your children carefully for dehydration as their condition can deteriorate quickly.
Mrs Erica Mainwaring has settled well into Manawa 1 with Miss Ramel now in Puriri 1.Thank you for taking on these classes at short notice!
I was lucky enough to take a group of 15 Year 5 and 6 students to the Mahurangi Library yesterday to work with a well known illustrator Brian Lovelock. As usual our students were perfect in their behaviour and were great ambassadors for the school. They enjoyed learning about watercolour techniques and were given the opportunity to do some illustrating of their own. Davina Leafa was even luckier to have her portrait painted and signed by Brian. These are on display in the school library.
The term is well underway now and the students are coming up with ideas for our Art Exhibition as part of the Great Snells Trail in Term 4. We look forward to the end results.This month is also Bookworm month where we are promoting reading, especially in the Library. Teachers are reading to different classes on Monday afternoons and we will be having a Bookmark competition for the Middle school and a colouring competition for the Junior School in a few weeks time. We also are having the Storylines Tour with 4 visiting authors on Thursday 27 August which the Senior school are attending.

AFTER SCHOOL CARE
Due to unforeseen family illness the After School Programme will be manned by Mrs Catherine Gleeson until the return of Michelle Corringham. Catherine may be contacted on 425 6278 for further information. The hours and days remain the same. Tuesday-Thursday in Puriri 2 from 3-4 pm at a cost of $10, or 3-4:30 pm at a cost of $15. A small afternoon tea is provided.
SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY 6 AUGUST
Despite torrential rain and howling wind the night before the weather gods smiled on us, allowing the 2015 school cross country to be run. The students experienced what a true cross country course can be like with lots of mud and slippery slopes. All the training paid off with some great results. Unfortunately Mr Morley was sick on the day, but we thank him for his awesome organisation skills. Thanks also to the parents and friends who came to cheer the students on. We appreciate your support. Most of the thanks though go to the students themselves who put such effort in to their running. Results are as follows:

As you may know the Great Snells Trail is happening again in November. Our students and teachers are in the process of creating wonderful art for our Art Exhibition for the Trail. There are some equipment and resource items that the teachers need help with getting. If you can provide these please contact the teachers with details

Manawa 2 Class Trip
On Wednesday 5 August Manawa 2 went to the Warkworth Museum as part of their Inquiry studies. They had a marvellous time despite the inclement weather. There was just enough break in the rain for the students to be able to see the magnificent 800 year old kauri tree in Parry Kauri Park. Many thanks to the parents who provided much needed transport on the day!

My ears listen and hear buzzing bees and the sound of the water swishing and splashing onto the soft sand,
My mouth remembers the taste of the amazing flavoured coconut smoothie,
My nose remembers the smell of fresh air and the smell of paradise,
My heart remembers being with other people and taking care of them in Tuvalu.
