Tēnā Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej, Hallo, Sawat Dee, Cześć, Goeie Dag, សួស្តី, Здравствуйте, Hola, Ola, 안녕하세요, Ayubowan, Vanakkam. Greetings to our school families.

This week students from all 9 schools in our local area (Horizon, Warkworth, Matakana, Leigh, Pakiri, Kaipara Flats, Ahuroa and Mahurangi College), came together here at SBS to share a day immersed in Te Ao Māori, focussed on Taurima Kapa Haka. As always the kids were amazing – like everyone there, our SBS kids performed with pride, learned lots and were proud of themselves. I have throughly enjoyed the close working relationship that our schools have built over the years – in an educational landscape that seems quite fractured right now, it’s reassuring to know that, locally, we’re good.

I’ve always said that High Schools wind down at the end of the year, and Primary Schools wind up! This year is no different – please keep a close eye on the calendar events below. Lots of fun coming up.

Ngā mihi nui,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

Book Week Success

Thankyou for your support of our book fair. We sold just under $7000 worth of books which earned the school library books to the value of almost $2500. A massive thanks to the parents who volunteered their time to help, we couldn’t put on the book fair without your help.

Walkathon – next Weds 12 November

Our annual Walkathon is coming up next Wednesday 12 November. All proceeds from this event will go towards the important Education Outside the Classroom programmes that we value here at SBS – Year 6 Camp Tongariro, Year 5 Camp Peter Snell, Year 3 & 4 Swimming Programme and Junior Snorkelling and Swim programmes.

Wear: school uniform to school. Students can change into comfortable House Colour mufti at morning tea if they want. They will also need a hat and comfortable walking shoes!

What: all students will walk (at their own pace) laps for two sessions 12:00 – 12:45 and 1:30 – 2:15

Bring: a drink bottle!! Also lunch, or cash for a saussage sizzle and the PTA bake sale. Parents are welcome to pop down and buy kids lunch – walk a few laps while you are here!

Pledge forms: these should have come home in bags earlier this week – contact the office if you need a spare. These should be returned to teachers prior to the Walkathon.

Everyone who fundraises any amount will go in the draw for a $100 and a $50 prezzie card. (Family donations will put all kids in the draw)

Middle School Swim Programme

Our Year 3 & 4 students from our Middle School have enjoyed their swimming lessons this term, using the Mahurangi College Pool. Underwater “stages” are provided which make the pool much shallower for our less confident swimmers, while our more experienced “fish” enjoy using the diving platforms and the extra length. Thanks to all the parents who have managed to remember sending togs on top of everything else at this time of the year!
School Lunch Service – EZlunch
We have had lots of great feedback from our lunch orders, in particular how fresh the food is. Please note that in order to get the food here in time, the order cut-off time has been moved forward to 8am on the day of delivery for everything except sushi (which has a 2pm 1-day prior cut off time.)  It’s easy, convenient, and open 24/7.
