Short terms are always super busy, and this one has certainly ticked that box! Athletics, swimming, visiting groups, class trips – things that add richness, opportunity and fun to our school calendar. It’s these things that will leave our tamariki with lasting memories of their time here at SBS. It’s also these things that we need to ensure we prioritise as continuing curriculum change is brought upon us.
The Government changes to how we are expected to deliver Reading, Writing and Maths had very little impact here at SBS – we were well into structured delivery of these programmes before it was enforced. Like all schools, we are now in the process of working through assessing new expectations, in some cases with no new tools to do this, and navigating multiple refreshments in other learning areas. These things will be the focus of our Teacher Only Day next week, as per the MOE Guidance. It’s a massive job, and we can only hope that changes slow down enough for schools to catch up. Our priority will always be our kids and our whānau – doing our best to provide the best teaching and learning experiences, and communicating these as clearly as we can. Early next term we will be having a curriculum information evening for parents and whānau who want to know more – keep an eye on upcoming newsletters for details.
Ngā mihi nui,

SBS Sprint Finals 2026

It was really noticeable at this year’s event, how hard everybody pushed themselves on the day. Not only did our top sprinters win some hard fought finals, but even those who find running challenge, gave it heaps, and there was very little spread across finishers in the heats. Congratulations to our speedy place getters.

Pasifika Performance Group

The whole school really enjoyed a performance by the travelling Pasifika Show earlier this month. Our Junior School were also serenaded by them at swimming as they warmed up by the beach. Also a huge well done to the staff who were spontaneously called up on stage to dance, and paid for no photographic evidence of this to be shared in the newsletter!
Junior Swimming
How lucky are our kids to swim at their beautiful local beach?! It’s a shame that the weather hasn’t been supportive over the past few days. Last week everyone enjoyed the warm water and sun. Huge thanks to the army of whānau helpers and teachers who “get amongst it” and make this happen.
Optional winter uniform items – rainjackets and beanies now for sale!
With the cold, wet and windy weather upon us, we’re all needing some extra layers in the morning. We have SBS rainjackets and beanies for sale at the office. Rainjackets are $44 each and beanies are $14.50 each. We also have long trousers for sale for $45. Please note: these are not compulsory uniform items.
Lunch ordering at Snells Beach School
Here at Snells Beach School we have lunch-ordering through Ezlunch available every day. Follow the link below to sign up for ezlunch and check out the menu. Sushi is available and needs to be ordered the night before whilst sandwiches/baking/other lunchbox items from New World can be ordered up to 8am of the same day. Please note, the lunch order is delivered right before our 1pm lunchtime so students still need to bring morning tea with them. Please contact the school office if you have any questions.
Stronger Within
Stronger Within, is a local service run by social worker, Rachael Willis, focusing on raising resilient, kind and confident young people. See below for information on an upcoming course in Warkworth.
Keeping in touch – communication is key
Keeping in touch is important. We need to be able to contact whānau quickly and efficiently. If you have changed address or contact details, please let us know asap, either via email admin@snellsbeach.school.nz, or by calling the school office 09 425 6058.
- Following our school Facebook page or Instagram
“Snells Beach School”, which operate as a digital newsletters. This is a great way to get quick updates and reminders. We post reminders and notices on Facebook – Instagram is more quick updates and snapshots of school life
- Downloading our School App
Simply download the “Skool Loop” app from either App Store or Play Store & select “Snells Beach School” from the drop down box to receive instant notifications & reminders. This is an effective way to get immediate notices – they will pop up direct to your phone. Mahurangi College use the same app which is useful – just use the drop down box to change schools.
- Subscribing to our school email database
Please email us admin@snellsbeach.school.nz to be added to the list. If you do not receive this newsletter via email on Friday afternoon, you are NOT in our database. All new families should have been added – please check. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- School Newsletters
We do not usually print newsletters – just the first one each term while people update their contact details if needed. They are emailed out or linked to our school Facebook page. School newsletters come out once a fortnight – teachers may send home additional class or team messages at other times.
