Tēnā Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej, Hallo, Sawat Dee, Cześć, Goeie Dag, សួស្តី, Здравствуйте, Hola, Ola, 안녕하세요, Ayubowan, Vanakkam. Greetings to our school families.

We had a fantastic turnout for our “Tough Stuff” presentation with Kylie Ryan last week—well over 70 parents attended. It was a valuable opportunity to learn together about how we can best support our tamariki, giving them the tools to navigate some of life’s big stages and changes. I appreciated the balance Kylie struck between sharing practical information and allowing space for you to reflect on how these ideas might work for your whānau. It’s always powerful when home and school are on the same page.

Thank you to everyone who has already completed the Whānau Health Consultation. This will close on Monday, so if you haven’t yet taken part, now’s your last chance. The results will be shared with the new Board and with our parent community in the next newsletter. Parents of students in Years 5 and 6—please keep an eye out for detailed information about the upcoming Pubertal Change lessons later this term.

Finally, please check your emails for information on voting in our Board of Trustees Election. Huge thanks to the brave souls who have “put their heads above the parapet” and put themselves forward for election. Our Board has been hard-working and dedicated over the past few years, and many members are now stepping down as their children move on from the school. I’ll thank them in more detail in the next newsletter, but I do want to acknowledge our past Chair, Hannah Edwards, for her eight years of support, and Leteisha Morris for her six years. Thank you both for the significant—though often unseen—impact you have had on our school.

Ngā mihi nui,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

Paid Union Meeting (PUM) – next Tuesday 19 August from 12:30pm
On Tuesday 19 August, school staff will be attending a Paid Union Meeting (PUM) in the afternoon. From 12:30pm, Snells Beach School will remain open for supervision only, and students will likely not be with their usual teachers for the remainder of the day.

We would appreciate it if you are able to collect your child at 12:30pm. Remaining students will be assigned to supervised classrooms.

If your child usually walks or rides home, and you are happy for them to do so at 12:30pm, please inform their classroom teacher before the day. We will ensure our pedestrian crossing is supervised at this earlier time.

Please note:
– There will be no school buses running at this earlier time.
– Kelly Club and school buses will operate at their usual times.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Our First “Strictly Jump Jam” Entry

We are incredibly lucky to have Bridgette White, dance teacher extraordinaire, working with a group of students in preparation for the Auckland “Strictly Jump Jam” Competition. This has been hugely popular – so much so, that we have limited participation to Year 6 students, but promised other levels that we will commit to this in future years, so they get a go too! The teachers who have had a “sneak peak” have been a bit blown away by the group’s progress. There will be a performance in assembly after the competition, so everyone can appreciate the work they have put in. We are very thankful to Matt and Bridgette at Whites Carpentry for sponsoring this opportunity for our kids – get in touch for all your carpentry and construction needs on whitescarpentryltd@gmail.com.

Trees for Survival Planting Day with Kōwhai 1
Kahikatea 1 Celebrate Columbia Independence Day
Tamariki really enjoy learning about other cultures, and sharing their own, and later this term we will be having a school wide opportunity for this. Last week Kahikatea 1 were lucky enough to have Mrs Taylor and Noa celebrate Columbia Independence Day with with them. They tried some different and delicious special drinks and treats before learning some Colombian dances.  So much fun!
Yummy Stickers for sport gear
SBS is collecting the yummy fruit stickers to earn more sports gear for the school. All teachers have sticker sheets so please bring them in and let’s grow our sports shed!

Toukon Ryu Karate

Classes take place every Tuesday night 6.30 – 7.30PM in the school hall.
My name is Paul Hart and I am the Founder and Chief Instructor of Toukon Ryu Karate New Zealand; affiliated to JKF (Gojukai Japanese Karate Federation). I have been involved with Martial Arts for over 35 years. I have studied Goju Ryu Karate for the past 26 years and I have been teaching a variety of students from the age of 5 through to students in their 80s!
I’m very excited to be bringing karate to the local community.
Karate is the ideal sport/activity for kids and adults alike. In today’s world it is vital that we equip ourselves, and especially our children, with self defence skills. Karate helps promotes self-confidence, balance, fitness, co-ordination, discipline, courtesy, health and wellness, responsibility, and will power. Children may start training in Toukon Ryu Karate as young as 5 years of age.
I hope to see all the students again from last year, but also all Beginners are welcome to come along and have a go. Uniforms are called a ” Gi ” pronounced ” Gee ” – parents will need to purchase one which they can do through Paul if they wish.
All other information regarding joining etc will be supplied at the class or feel free to txt Sensei Paul on 021 297 2431

I look forward to seeing you
