Tēnā Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej, Hallo, Sawat Dee, Cześć, Goeie Dag, សួស្តី, Здравствуйте, Hola, Ola, 안녕하세요, Ayubowan, Vanakkam. Greetings to our school families.

After more than six months, we’ve finally moved back into our Admin Block this week. As anyone who’s ever moved knows — it’s never fun — and this has been no exception! There are still boxes everywhere, and the Library hasn’t even been touched yet. But what a huge difference it makes to be back together as an Admin Team.

Over the past half year, it’s become increasingly clear just how closely we work together and how much smoother everything runs when we’re in the same space. It’s great to be back in our groove again. We’re now focused on tying up the last loose ends and getting the Library ready for student use at the start of next term. The scaffolding and building wrap will come down next week also.

Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of accompanying our Year 6 students to Tongariro, along with Kyle Port, Ben Howson, Stacey Marfleet, super chef Marissa, and a team of adventurous parents.

It was a tough week weather-wise, with plenty of rain, but our students took it all in stride — thanks to polypros and waterproof gear! They made the most of every opportunity, especially white water rafting, caving, and playing in the snow.

What stood out most, though, was the way our tamariki supported one another — through tiredness, through the cold, and during challenging moments. They lived and breathed our school values all week, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.

Ngā mihi nui,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

SBS Matariki Celebration – all welcome. Matariki curious? Come and find out more!

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to all to come along and join in with our SBS Matariki Celebrations next Thursday, 19 June, from 9:10am. Whanau are welcome to attend our special assembly, and then join in as they wish in various Matariki activities in classes throughout the morning, followed by a shared lunch of hot soup and rolls at 12:30pm (extra soup in the staffroom for whanau and guests).

All Students:

All students need to bring a mug for their soup this Thursday. Plastic or non-breakable is best, but we have found any mug is fine, provided they are wrapped in a tea towel or similar to transport in bags.

Food Allergy Kids:

We will be using Kings Vegetable Soup as a soup base in classes. There will be plain white buns for all in classes, and non-dairy spread. Gluten free soup, using Kings Gluten Free Vegetable soup base, and GF bread/buns will be available in the staffroom – please let your child’s teacher know if they require this, or simply send them with their preferred bread.

Other Food:

There will be plenty of soup & fresh baked buns. Whether you also choose to send additional lunch is up to you. Children will need morning tea and their drink bottles.

Leaving Early:

It is a normal school day and buses/Kelly Club will run as usual. However, if you are coming for the morning & prefer to take your child home when you leave, please just let their teacher know – they don’t need to be signed out at the office.

Reports and Parent Interviews

Mid Year Reports will go home in hard copy, in bags, next Thursday 19 June. If you would like a digital copy sent to another parent/caregiver, who will not receive the paper copy, please email us on admin@snellsbeach.school.nz, so we can arrange this.

We have our Mid Year Parent Interviews, as part of our reporting process, in the last week of school:
Wednesday 25 June 2:30pm – 8:00pm or Thursday 26 June 3:20pm – 5:00pm

Once again, bookings will be through our Skool Loop App.

Students in Rimu 1, Rimu 2 and Kauri 1 – teachers from these classes have already met with parents so do not need to book via this system.

Booking through the app is super simple – simply open the app and click onto the interviews or bookings button, choose the teacher required followed by the date and time.

Families with more than one student at SBS: Please leave a 10 min slot between interviews, to allow you to move between classes, and not miss any of your interview time. We strongly recommend you book through the app to get preference of booking times.

Prefer not to use the app? Please contact Marissa Bale by email on mbale@snellsbeach.school.nz or pop into the office to set a time. Please specify your preferred time. Bookings via the app will be given preference.

Year 6 Camp Assembly

On the last day of school this term, (Friday 27 June), at 9:15am, our Year 6 students will share their camp experiences at their camp assembly. Everyone is welcome. This is an opportunity for everyone who supported our students via the Mini Gala, raffles, pizza days, or other fundraisers to see how your donations were invested in our kids. It’s also a great opportunity for Year 5 parents to understand camp for next year.

Cross Country

Classes are now starting training for our school Cross Country, early next term. Competitive runners might like to get underway with training at home, or over the holidays. Remember, Cross Country is a winter event, and the kids will be running in the mud – so competitive runners should be training for this.

Toukon Ryu Karate

Classes take place every Tuesday night 6.30 – 7.30PM in the school hall.
My name is Paul Hart and I am the Founder and Chief Instructor of Toukon Ryu Karate New Zealand; affiliated to JKF (Gojukai Japanese Karate Federation). I have been involved with Martial Arts for over 35 years. I have studied Goju Ryu Karate for the past 26 years and I have been teaching a variety of students from the age of 5 through to students in their 80s!
I’m very excited to be bringing karate to the local community.
Karate is the ideal sport/activity for kids and adults alike. In today’s world it is vital that we equip ourselves, and especially our children, with self defence skills. Karate helps promotes self-confidence, balance, fitness, co-ordination, discipline, courtesy, health and wellness, responsibility, and will power. Children may start training in Toukon Ryu Karate as young as 5 years of age.
I hope to see all the students again from last year, but also all Beginners are welcome to come along and have a go. Uniforms are called a ” Gi ” pronounced ” Gee ” – parents will need to purchase one which they can do through Paul if they wish.
All other information regarding joining etc will be supplied at the class or feel free to txt Sensei Paul on 021 297 2431

I look forward to seeing you
