Tena Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej. Greetings to our school families.

DSCN4533 (9)I love this time of term! Classes have settled in, and new relationships have been formed. Learning programmes are underway, and starting to gain some real momentum. Real life learning opportunities, where kids can get their “hands dirty” and “have a go” come along, and there is a really positive feel around our school.

I am particularly pleased this week to share Miss Thomas’s news about our new Walking School Buses (see below). These to me really exemplify one of our core values – to be the heart of a community where we all work together and support each other. What a great opportunity for our children to walk together, with friends, safely supervised by an adult. Fun for kids, peace of mind for parents and good for the environment! Perfect!

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

Important Safety Message – Dawson Road

We recently had a visit from the site manager of the new sub-division across the road from the school. He has informed me that there needs to be some work done very soon to connect the subdivision to the water mains, which are located on our side of the road, by the entrance to the staff carpark. To do this, they will go under the road, so cars and buses will not be affected, but they will have to close off the footpath. Children walking to school will be redirected through a new safe route, via the paddock next to the school. The paddock fence will be temporarily removed to allow access, and then we will cone a pathway through the staff carpark, which will be closed to traffic immediately before and after school. This work is expected to be done during early April.

Travelwise Week – What a week!

What fun we had! Travelwise week fitted perfectly with our big concept this year “Care for Here”, caring for people and the environment. Keeping ourselves fit, and reducing pollution and congestion caused by traffic – perfect! Miss Thomas and her Travelwise Monitors organised some excellent events, and the weather was beautiful. It was wonderful to see so many parents joining us throughout the week, and building such a strong sense of community.

Walkathon Donations – internet banking

A reminder all walkathon sponsorship money should be in to school by next Friday.

Question from a parent: Can we internet bank our Walkathon donations?

Answer: Absolutely! Just add your child’s name & “athon” as reference. You can click on “make a payment” on our school website, or transfer the money directly to our account 12 3095 0002327 00

Join one of the new “Walking School Buses”

Hi there all walkers! Now, with the help of some super parents, we are ready to begin a new year of Walking School Buses. A WSB is a group of children that walk to school together with adult support; they arrive at school safe, happy and ready to learn. The group walks along a set route and children can join along the way.

Here are the timetables for our Algies All Stars and Tamatea Tigers routes for 2017.

Inter-school Swimming

We sent a large team to the Inter School Swimming Sports held at the College Pool last Tuesday. They produced some amazing results, in particular Annika Bayer cleaning up in many events. To get feedback from the Principal of another school on how standout our kids were in terms of behaviour and sportsmanship was pretty special! We are still awaiting detailed results & will publish these as they come through. Good luck to all those who qualified for the Hibiscus Coast Swim Finals!
