Tena Kotou Katoa, Talofa, Mauri, greetings to our school families. DSCN4530 (3)

The Board of Trustees and I have been very busy compiling and sending in our School Charter and Annual Plan for 2016 to the Ministry. In parent speak it is a rather large but important document which contains our collaborative Vision, and planning and targets for learning for this year. Copies will be available in the office if you wish to read it, and on the website. Our School Vision is one that we all can be extremely proud of. It was put together by not just the Board and staff, but by you parents and your children  as well. Therefore we all own it-the school, the families and the community. It is not something that I or the teachers designed on our own to impose on  children and parents. It is something that contains all the aspirations that we and you have for education at Snells Beach School. It is the foundation for everything that we do and what we believe in. I encourage you to have a look at it. I think it is very important that you understand what it is we are working at and how we are doing it, to ensure that your children are ready for the big bad world when they step out of our school doors. As you can probably tell I am rather passionate about our Vision because it works! I hope to see many of you at the Beach Carnival on Friday. Please stop for a chat and to say hello. It should be a lovely day. We have had a great start to this year with lots of exciting activities outside the classroom to complement what happens inside the classrooms. It all adds up to producing well rounded children who have had lots of different learning opportunities.

New Uniform Jacket and Beanie
Jacket coverWe are excited to announce we have added a new jacket and beanie to our uniform range. The jackets will retail for $35, and will NOT be embroidered with any school logos, which will hopefully allow them to be worn more out of school and for other activities. They are nylon outer, and polar fleece lined, and include a reflector strip across the back. We have also added an embroidered beanie which will retail for $12, and comes in 2 sizes, for big and small heads! Both can be ordered through our school office – please contact us for details. We keep a stock of beanies, and jackets are made to order in a range of sizes.

A big “Welcome” to all Friends and Whanau to our “Friday Whanau lunches
picnicWhanau Lunch – 12:30 Fridays Every Friday our school has a Whanau Lunch, where the children sit and eat communally, rather than in their class areas. Depending on the weather it is held either in the hall, or the main courtyard. Students are free to sit with friends and family from all classes, and we welcome any parents, grandparents or other family members also. When our “Friday Funday” lunches recommence next week, parents can order these through their child’s class order form (just ask the teacher to add your name at the bottom), and your lunch will be served with the children’s. We do ask however, that parents do not circulate through the wider playground during playtime after the children are finished eating.

Thinking of buying a house or remortgaging? If you are a parent, staff member or member of a school community, and you draw down a new ASB home loan of $150,000 or more, ASB will donate $1000 to your chosen participating school. Yes we are participating! So please remember us, and take the voucher below with you or contact Kathryn Ramel for a hard copy kramel@snellsbeach.school.nz
