Bird Day When our Maori elders came to bless our buildings once they were finished they gave the school the name of "Nga Manu o te Ngahere" or "The Birds of the Forest". Each of a classroom blocks has been assigned both a tree, and a bird, native to our area. These are: Nikau - Kotare (Kingfisher) Manawa - Kawau (Shag) Kahikatea - Pukeko Kauri - Tui Puriri - Kereru In term one of this year, we held Bird Day to celebrate our special connection.
