Tena Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej, Hallo. Greetings to our school families.

mugshotI had some leave over the past few days to attend a family wedding in Australia – it was a crazily busy, but special time, as weddings usually are. Upon my return, I have been made even more aware of what a brilliant team we have working here at SBS, and the culture of events that have continued in my absence. Thanks in particular to Trent Morley, Kerry Thomas, Erena Williamson and Su Henry in the office for keeping the ship afloat. And a special thank you to all parents and whanau who have supported the school at our Beach Celebration and PUM over the past few weeks. What a blessing to see our values in action on our community.

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

School Council 2018

We were proud to announce our student Council earlier this term. We recognise a range of skills needed for leadership, and emphasize the need to both listen and be heard. Good leaders build relationships with the team they lead. Miss Ramel & Miss Thomas look forward to working with the Council this year!

Easter Tuesday – 3rd April

Due to a historic piece of legislation, dating back to when schools only had three terms prior to 1996, the Tuesday after Easter is a holiday for all schools across the country. Usually this slips by unnoticed, as Easter falls within our existing holidays. This year, with the early Easter, the school will be closed for Good Friday (30.3), Easter Monday (2.4), and Easter Tuesday (3.3) in line with expectations.

Logo Competition – $250 Cash Prize

Have you heard about our Mahurangi Kāhui Ako which our school is part of?  This Community of Learning (CoL) was founded in 2016 by a group of local schools who are passionate about working together to identify, share, contribute to, and celebrate learning strategies that promote success for all.  Each school has a logo that represents their special character. What logo could now represent us as a community?

Our vision: success for all.  Our values: integrity, open-mindedness, and equity.

The winning logo could be a conceptual design, a representation of our valued, cultural histories or our unique, environmental surroundings.  Ultimately, all members of our community will feel they can connect to it’s message.

Annual Beach Celebration

We are a beach school, and it forms a big part of our lives. We value children having real life, hands on learning experiences, learning about the world around them, and what contributions they can make to that. Each year, we have a fun “Beach Celebration” at the beach to signify the changing temperature, and the closing of our swim season. For those of you who missed this, we really wanted to draw your attention to the following, which was posted by a member of our Senior Leadership Team, on our school Facebook page:

REFLECTING on our day today at the beach, I was thinking about how ‘easy’ it was.
Taking the whole school down to the beach could be a hard task – but it was easy and, more importantly, it was FUN!

WHY?
Because we have such committed, amazing staff members – who just get on with it, smile and radiate positivity, think for themselves, contribute and support each other – especially when we are short of a few ‘key players’.

WHY?
Because we have an amazing community of supportive caregivers/parents/whanau – who are willing to give up their time for our wider school family, enjoy life and enjoy precious times, like today, with their children.

WHY?
Because our kids at SBS are pretty amazing. They are a unique, special group of children – who appreciate their teachers, their families and their friends.

We are blessed to live in this community and to appreciate what it has to offer – especially on days like today.

Amazing.
Thanks to ALL who helped make today FUN and ‘EASY’
