The Life Ed Caravan is here!

The Life Education Health Programme started this week at Snells Beach School. Harold the Giraffe is visiting us with Chris Turner, the Life Education Facilitator to work with the students over the course of the week.  All children will have 2 sessions each in the caravan, with follow-up work in classes.  You are likely to have work come home with your child during this time that will give you an idea of what they are doing. Please ask them about it.

The topics being covered for different areas of the school are as follows:

  • Years 0-2       Safety & Friendship: Keeping ourselves safe
  • Years 2-4       Relationships: Friendship: Feelings of others
  • Years 5-6       Decisions & Identity: Impact of decisions we make

There is a cost to the programme of $5 per student to cover the workbook and activities they will be doing, including the cost of having the Life Education Caravan on site. Please return the slip you will receive today with payment to your child’s teacher by Friday 27 October 2017. Payment can also be made at the school office by Eftpos, or via online banking 12-3095-0002327-000 (use child’s name & LEd as a reference).

Travelwise Monitors – Keeping an eye on speed

This week, our Travelwise Leaders got to spend time with Yvette from Auckland Transport.
They had a fun time getting to use the ‘speed guns’ to check the speed of our local drivers. (Driving along Mahu East Road – in both directions – near the corner by Dawson Road.)

Check out the results below:

~ Total number of cars recorded: 59
~ Highest speed: 66 km/hr
~ Lowest speed: 26 km/hr
~ Average Speed recorded: 51 km/hr (Speed limit – 50km/hr)
~ 42% of the drivers were driving over the speed limit.

Woah!! Think we need to slow down a bit more!

The kids also got to have a chance to clock their own speed – Usain Bolt-style!
Then had a go at making their very own Travelwise badges, using a badge-maker. Very cool!
Thanks so much, Yvette!!
