DSCN4533 (8)Last week we had the ERO Reviewers visit us. It was an intense week of sharing, discussion and reflection – an exhausting process for all. We now have a reasonably lengthy wait to receive our final, written report, but I am delighted to feed back to you, that the review was extremely positive. Much of the detail is confidential at this stage, but I can tell you that one of the key points made to the BOT at the summary meeting was that “Snells Beach School is a great place for students and adults to feel supported to achieve their best”, and that EVERYONE (students, leadership, teachers, support staff etc) had a strong sense of pride in our school, and a strong shared vision of what we are working towards.

The reviewers spoke highly of the students that they interacted with, how articulate they were, and how supportive of each other. Once again we were proud of how our students conducted themselves, representing themselves and our school. Well done everyone for a huge team effort!

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

Change to our Assembly next week  – all welcome

We have reshuffled our assemblies slightly, and next Friday for our Full School Assembly, we will be having the Camp Tongariro Assembly, where our Year 6 students will celebrate & share their camp experiences. At the conclusion of this assembly, we shall also have the Term Values Awards presentations.  To allow us to view the camp movie, unaffected by the sun, we are moving the start time to 11:30am next Friday 7 July. We welcome you all to attend.

Welcome to our new member of our Board of Trustees

We are delighted to announce that at the BOT Meeting this week, it was decided that Kylie Steffener would be seconded on to our Board, with a view to focus on sponsorship. Kylie, from Sandcastles Early Childhood Centre, has two children at our school, and has had long-time involvement, dating back to when she was a teacher here. We look forward to working closely with Kylie again, and would like to thank her for making this commitment.

Mid Year Reports & Parent Teacher Interviews

Today you will receive your child’s mid year written report, updating you on their progress to date. Within that envelope you will also find a slip with confirmation of your interview time for next week.  Whilst the written report is a quick snapshot of your child’s achievement, we value the interview as time to talk through progress in more detail, and answer any questions you may have.

Matariki Poem Presentations at the Mahurangi East Library

poets

We were delighted that the following children were asked to attend the Mahurangi East Library, Winter Words Session this week to read their own Matariki Poem: Finn Gibson, Gemma Price,  Levi Trout, Carlos Costa Leversha, Aria Wood, Yvenette Mahue, Annika Bayer, Tiua Kanipule-Eritai

Mrs Williamson, who attended to support our presenters, has said how proud she was of all our students for getting up in front of quite a large audience, and representing both themselves, and our school, with so much pride. At the culmination of the evening, the following awards were presented to our students:

  • Finn Gibson – “Best Overall Poem” & “Most Original Spin”
  • Amber Russell – “Rythmic Flow Award”
  • Annika Bayer – “Best Orator Award”
  • Carlos Costa Leversha – “Highly Commended”

Well done everyone!

Elijah & Casey – Helping “Save Our Stream”

Elijah and Casey

The students in Puriri 2 have been continuing to dig deeper into their investigation as to how they can save our local stream from the impacts of development & other pollutants. Elijah and Casey came to share their thoughts on how we can make a difference. It was obvious how passionate they are about sharing their learning – and making a difference in the world. Well done boys!

A Successful start for the Snells Beach Hockey Teams

The Snells Beach School Hockey Teams have made a strong start to their Saturday morning competitions this season. There have been some good wins, and also a strong sense of development, as “those who have played before” pass on their knowledge and skills to the “newbies’. The Junior “Snells Sharks” coached by Jackie Clayden and Brenda Howson, and the Senior “Snells Shooters”, coached by Winnie, have been training hard after school every Thursday. We would like to say a huge thank you to Michelle Smithson for all her organisation, managing both teams.

Thank you to our sponsors
